Marshalltown, IA
Hardcore punk
In recent years, Des Moines music fans know Jeffrey Eaton best as DJ 8/10 through his vinyl-driven dance parties like Modern Love, Born Wild and Pressure Drop. But it’s Eaton’s work with the Marshalltown hardcore band Modern Life is War that has won him acclaim worldwide.

Modern Life is War enjoyed a successful six-year run in the mid-2000s, before breaking up in 2008. In 2012 the band reformed, releasing a new album, “Fever Hunting.” MLIW headlined the This is Hardcore festival in 2013 and performed at the Reading Festival in 2015, and has opened for acts like The Descendents and Converge. They’re one of the most influential hardcore bands in the world over the last two decades and will get to show off that skill to a huge festival crowd in their home state at 80/35.
