Hip Hop
Someone who displays grit is passionate, resilient and dedicated to reaching their goals. Some might call it “putting in work.” MarKaus has consistently put in work since stepping into the Des Moines music scene several years ago. Whether it’s putting on hip hop variety shows, collaborating with other musicians from a variety of genres or releasing music and videos: he keeps himself plenty busy. Recently, he teamed up with Juice Magazine and the Isiserettes Drill & Drum Corps to produce a unique live performance video which made the rounds on social media earlier this spring.

Born in Kansas City and raised in Atlanta, it’s easy to hear the many influences of rap, soul and aspects of punk that are peppered throughout his sound. All of which is stratified by his rhymes that are underlined with social and political commentary that culminates in his own style he has coined “Riot Music.” Recently signed to Des Moines based label Station 1 Records, MarKaus is determined to spread his name and art even further putting his grit on full display at 80-35 this year.
