Los Angeles
Tropicalia / Psychedelic rock / Soul
Take some psychedelic guitar, mix in Brazilian Tropicalia, add a dash of Latin American soul and a heaping helping of the coolest superhero ever, and you get Chicano Batman. The Los Angeles quartet has been making waves since opening for Jack White’s Lazaretto tour. You can get a taste of what caught Jack’s ear when the band performs at this year’s 80/35.

Don’t expect capes and cowls; the members of Chicano Batman regularly perform in tuxedo shirts and matching suits, creating a unified look that harkens back to the 60s soul acts that inspired the band. Chicano Batman released its third album, “Freedom is Free,” this March.
